There is no denying the significance of France’s traditional Rhone Valley varietals to the Tahbilk Estate portfolio of Whites and Reds ...
We would also argue, there is no denying the success we have had with our 'Game of Rhones' Australian translations of them as underlined in this Six Pack ...

About this winei

There is an undeniable connection between the Tahbilk Estate and France's Rhone Valley and that is with the grapes of the Rhone.

The introduction of Rhone varietals to the Estate can be traced back to our earliest days. We have original rootstock Shiraz vines planted on the Estate in 1860 that are amongst the oldest in world given the ravages of Phylloxera through the vineyards of the Rhone Valley that saw older vineyard plantings there decimated. Equally our history with Marsanne can be traced back to the 1860s with the sourcing of ‘White Hermitage’ cuttings from ‘St Hubert’s’ Vineyard in the Yarra Valley, Hermitage being an appellation of the Northern Rhone. Regretfully these original Marsanne plantings have not survived but we still have Marsanne plantings going back to 1927, which, like our 1860 Shiraz, are amongst the oldest in the world.

With the success of Shiraz and Marsanne from the Estate, it was a straightforward decision to extend our Rhone Valley varietals with Viognier planted in 2001 and Grenache and Mourvèdre following in 2005.

It’s not all about the vines, there are other intangible connections that could be made between the wines of the Rhone and our own Estate releases. One being the noted food-friendliness of Rhone Valley wines, a characteristic that we pride ourselves on with our Estate varietal releases – wines that complement rather than overpower.

Another would be value for money. Wines of the Rhone particular those of the Southern Rhone, but equally premier Rhone appellation releases compared to the stratospheric prices asked for Bordeaux First Growth wines or Grand Cru Burgundy’s, are noted for being some of the best value wines in the world. Equally noted are Tahbilk releases across Estate and Cellar Door only releases ... the quality delivered relative to the price is a focus in the making as well as being well recognised through press reviews and Wine Club Member feedback. This would even extend to our super-premium ‘1860 Vines’ Shiraz. Sourced from some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world ... minimal production, critically acclaimed and well under half the price of the Grange’s and Hill Of Grace’s of the world.

Tasting Notei

Tahbilk 2025 Grenache Mourverdre Rose
13.0% Alcohol | Enjoy Now to 2027/2028
A marriage of Grenache and Mourvedre from the highly regarded Estate 2025 vintage has delivered a deliciously dry and zesty Rosé guaranteed to keep Summer alive no matter the season.
Vibrant and juicy red berry and cherry ripe fruits sit lusciously alongside textural musk and savoury nuances with the entire package enlivened by a refreshing grape acidity … delish!

Tahbilk 2024 Grenache
14.0% Alcohol | Enjoy Now to 2029/2031

With the character that vine maturity brings, our twenty-year-old plantings have delivered a juicy and vibrant release. Aromatic raspberry and cherry fruits with sweet spice and oregano notes are joined by floral and savoury characters on a fresh and expressive palate. A wine for the here and now … and tomorrow.

Tahbilk 2023 Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre
14.0% Alcohol | Enjoy Now to 2027/2029
Notwithstanding the most challenging of years, including a 1 in 100-year flood event, releases from 2023 shine with wonderful depth of flavour and character.
Fully realised here with this immediately appealing savoury, fleshy and multi-layered blend, offering dark berry and plum fruits, some spicy, gamey notes and finely textured tannins.

Tahbilk 2022 Shiraz
14.5% Alcohol | Enjoy Now to 2035/2039 Plus
A few swirls of the glass has ripe plum, blackberry and violet aromas coming through, with white pepper and boysenberry rounding out the nose.
The palate has a surprising initial softness … the tannin glides across the back. There is a tart cranberry acidity that knocks the balance off making it a little bit more crunchy drinking young but will do okay with a bit of age under its belt.

Tahbilk 2024 Marsanne
12.5% Alcohol | Enjoy Now to 2032/2034
Whilst presenting its own challenges as whites and reds ripened together bringing on a mad rush, vintage 2024 delivered very good to outstanding wines.
The fruit intensity of our 2024 Marsanne is signature to this unique varietal ... lifted citrus and tropical fruits are framed by a bright minerality with delicious toast and honeysuckle richness undoubtedly coming with age.

Tahbilk 2024 Viognier
12.5% Alcohol | Enjoy Now to 2026/2027
After the challenges of the 2023 vintage, the Estate saw an early and successful harvest in 2024 with yields down but quality very good to exceptional. Classic ginger spice and rose petal aromas set this as a true to form Estate Viognier release … a palate of stone fruits and honeysuckle notes further confirmation.
A vivacious early drinking wine of considerable character.
