There is no denying the significance of France’s traditional Rhone Valley white varietals of Marsanne, Viognier and Roussanne to the Tahbilk portfolio of Estate releases.
Viognier is the 'birthday boy' here as we celebrate International Viognier Day and it is joined by its Rhone Valley siblings in this Six Pack as we embrace the food friendly, sheer drinkability and value for money character of these unique varietals.

About this winei

There is an undeniable connection between the Tahbilk Estate and France's Rhone Valley and that is with the grapes of the Rhone.

The introduction of Rhone Valley white varietals to the Estate can be traced back to our earliest days. Our history with Marsanne can be traced back to the 1860s with the sourcing of ‘White Hermitage’ cuttings from ‘St Hubert’s’ Vineyard in the Yarra Valley, Hermitage being an appellation of the Northern Rhone. Regretfully these original Marsanne plantings have not survived but we still have Marsanne plantings going back to 1927 that are amongst the oldest in the world.

With the success of Marsanne from the Estate, it was a straightforward decision to extend our Rhone Valley varietals with Roussanne and Viognier planted in 1990 and 2001 respectively.

It’s not all about the vines, there are other intangible connections that could be made between the wines of the Rhone and our own Estate releases. One being the noted food-friendliness of Rhone Valley wines, a characteristic that we pride ourselves on with our Estate varietal releases – wines that complement rather than overpower.

Another would be value for money. Wines of the Rhone particular those of the Southern Rhone, but equally premier Rhone appellation releases compared to the stratospheric prices asked for Bordeaux First Growth wines or Grand Cru Burgundy’s, are noted for being some of the best value wines in the world.

Equally noted are Tahbilk Estate releases across Cellar Door and Wine Club ... the quality delivered relative to the price is a focus in the making as well as being well recognised through press reviews and Club Member feedback.

Tasting Notei

Tahbilk 2025 Viognier
Enjoy Now to 2027/2028 | 13.5% Alcohol

"Brings so much to the glass, not least of which is incredible value for money.
Combines the ripeness and inviting stone fruit freshness of the viognier grape with zippy, energised acidity, and the result is mighty tasty. Peach, nectarine, citrus and apricot aromas give way to a smooth, mealy palate anchored to ripe fruits and framed in honeyed spice. A consistent performer that doesn't disappoint."

Tahbilk 2025 Marsanne
Enjoy Now to 2034/2036 | 12.0% Alcohol
"Said it before, and will say it again. Up there with the best value white wines in the world.
Very pale signature green highlights. Just ripe honeydew and honeysuckle, hints of sweet jasmine florals. Lemon zest freshness, slivered almond savoury and a touch of green apple crispness. Lively and fresh.
The honeysuckle florals echo over a bittersweet citrus with a spine of drying stoniness and piercing acid line.
Drink now to 2035. Bargain."

Tahbilk 2025 'Landmark Series' Oaked Marsanne
Enjoy Now to 2030/2032 | 12.0% Alcohol
A much treasured varietal ... as with the Tahbilk Wetlands represented on the label ... in this instance the winemaking team have stepped off the expected Tahbilk Marsanne path and introduced an element of oak maturation.
The result is true-to-Estate citrus, tropical and pear varietal Marsanne characters that are cloaked in a dusting of spicy oak notes ... a minerally acidity on the finish also in play.

Tahbilk 2025 'Landmark Series' Oaked Roussanne Marsanne Viognier
Enjoy Now to 2028/2030 | 12.5% Alcohol
A close to equal split across the three Estate varietals that make up this homage blend to the luscious and complex Whites of France's Rhone Valley, the texture and elegance of Roussanne is teased out with citrus and tropical Marsanne notes, floral and stone fruits from Viognier, all wrapped in a web of savoury oak from time spent on wood.
