On Thursday 4th December 2025, Tahbilk Estate marked a historic milestone, celebrating a century of continuous Purbrick family ownership with a commemorative plaque unveiling. The estate’s 97-year-old matriarch, Bonnie Purbrick, assisted by her family, unveiled the plaque at the cellar door, placing symbolic items representing the family’s past and future into the stonework: a 2015 “1927 Vines” Marsanne, a 2015 ESP Cabernet Sauvignon, and a copy of The Purbricks of Tahbilk 1925–2025.

The 2025 Victorian Wine Show brought the state’s top producers, judges, and industry figures to Tahbilk Estate Restaurant for a day of celebration, rigorous judging, and outstanding wine. Tahbilk was honoured to host the event on home soil and even more delighted to walk away with four major trophies, recognising standout wines across rosé and Mediterranean white varieties, along with the Colin J Richardson Memorial Trophy for Most Successful Exhibitor.

Tahbilk recently celebrated two of its long-standing team members: Alan George (“Georgy”), the Estate’s dedicated Winemaker, and Mary Nolan, Bottling and Despatch Manager. Georgie’s expertise and mentorship have guided countless vintages, while Mary’s precision and care ensure every bottle leaving the Estate reflects Tahbilk’s high standards. Their dedication, skill, and warmth embody the spirit of Tahbilk, making them pillars of the winery’s ongoing story.

The Landmark Series is a celebration of the places that define Tahbilk. Beginning with our hand-dug Underground Cellars of the 1860s, this new collection brings heritage to life through limited-release wines, the 2022 Syrah and the 2023 Estate Syrah Mourvèdre.

Tahbilk Estate has taken another major step in its environmental journey with the planting of 1,500 native trees across the property. Led by Head Gardener Travis McCarty and the Garden Team, this initiative expands the Estate’s network of nature corridors, providing safe passage for wildlife and strengthening the landscape's biodiversity.

Tim Purbrick was a much-loved member of the Tahbilk family, known for his bow tie, big smile, and flair for storytelling. His commemorative plaque now rests in the underground cellars, where his stories and spirit still linger.

Beneath the quiet hum of Tahbilk’s historic winery lies a world of stillness, shadow, and time. Carved from the cool earth in the 1860s, the Tahbilk underground cellars are more than just a place to store wine—they cradle generations of patience and promise, quietly maturing in the dark until their time comes.

Saturday, 12 April marked a truly unforgettable evening at Tahbilk Estate, as Wine Club members came together to celebrate 100 years of Purbrick family ownership. Members shared stories, laughed over familiar vintages, and raised a toast to the enduring legacy of a family and a place that have shaped Australian wine for a century.

Tahbilk Winery’s historic vineyards in Nagambie have been under the loving stewardship of the Purbrick family for a full century. The estate was purchased by Reginald Purbrick in 1925, rescuing it from decline and launching a family legacy. Today, Tahbilk is celebrated as Victoria’s oldest family-owned winery.

We are immensely proud to share the news that Alister Purbrick, fourth-generation winemaker and long-time custodian of Tahbilk, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the wine industry.

The Tahbilk billabongs and surrounding woodlands are a thriving natural haven, home to over 62 species of native birds and a rich diversity of wildlife. From the towering canopy of River Red Gums to the leafy mid-layer of wattles and the bustling ground cover of grasses and fallen leaves, each layer of vegetation supports unique animals with specific habitat needs.
