Undeniably Tahbilk in character and style, a lifted nose of cassis and spice leads to a similarly flavoured, fresh and rounded palate of forest herbs, ripe berries and black olives, along with the merest suggestion of the earthy and savoury complexity to come with more time in the cellar.
You’ll love it!

About this winei

Our Landmark Series presents limited release wines under distinctive depictions of Tahbilk’s much treasured attractions ... in this instance our historic vineyards.

“We don’t grow older, we grow riper.” Pablo Picasso

Unlikely that Picasso was referring to grape vines when he made this statement but in essence the same call could be applied. When young, vines are energetic and lively setting more bunches than they can fully ripen. As their age increases they adjust and bring yields into balance with a then more even ripening. Other factors like generally smaller berries with age and less canopy cover letting in more sunshine also contribute to the fruit from older vines being ‘riper’ and certainly possessing an individual character and complexity much prized from a winemaking perspective.

Here on the Estate, outside of our iconic Shiraz block planted in 1860 – amongst the oldest grape vines in the world - there is a wealth of ‘younger’ plantings, and by younger I’m meaning early and mid-1900s rather than 1800s!
Nurtured for generations along the Goulburn River, they produce fruit of remarkable character and reflect Tahbilk's deep commitment to the land and its enduring winemaking heritage.

Vintage Notesi

VINTAGE 2021
La Nina had a major influence on the 2020/21 growing season.
Tahbilk experienced good rainfall post 2020 vintage, and regular rainfall through the year. Notwithstanding the challenges this presented for the vineyard team, who worked diligently to get their sprays on as required, the frequent rain days ensured the vineyards looked healthy and vibrant, with no disease or growth issues.
The effects of La Nina contributed to a cool to warm, but not hot summer, which meant a slow and steady ripening. By mid-March we’d picked all of the whites with all very promising – Marsanne in particular. We’d also picked some reds by mid-March, mostly for Rosé, however daily light showers that followed had us all nervously waiting for the rain to stop so we could start picking the reds in earnest.
The rain did stop and, after a lull in ripening, the reds jumped in sugar and the Winery staff were flat out keeping up with the picking.
For a vintage that looked touch and go quite a few times, 2021 is rated a very good, to potentially stellar vintage.
