2026 Vintage
The 2026 vintage at Tahbilk Winery will be remembered as one of resilience, adaptability, and disciplined vineyard management.
Marked by variable weather patterns, lengthy ripening periods, and ongoing climatic pressures, the season challenged both vineyard and winery teams from start to finish. Despite these difficulties, the dedication and experience of the Tahbilk team ensured fruit quality remained strong, producing wines that reflect both the character of the season and the resilience of the Estate’s historic vineyards.
The season commenced with below average winter rainfall, creating early concerns around soil moisture and irrigation management heading into spring. Variable spring conditions, including intermittent rainfall events and periods of elevated humidity, increased disease pressure and required intensive vineyard monitoring and canopy management throughout the growing season.
Budburst occurred relatively evenly across the Estate, however cooler weather and frost through flowering and fruit set led to uneven bunch development in some varieties, particularly within sensitive red varietals. This ultimately contributed to lighter crops and greater variability across vineyard blocks.
As summer progressed, the region experienced a series of heat events during January and February, placing significant stress on vines and accelerating ripening across several varieties. The compressed harvest window required careful logistical coordination between vineyard and winery operations to ensure fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness.
Vintage 2026 required flexibility and precision within the winery, with fruit arriving over a lengthy period and often in smaller, carefully selected parcels.
While yields were generally lower than average, the vintage has produced wines with strong regional character, depth of flavour, and excellent ageing potential
White varieties are showing good flavour concentration and texture, with Marsanne a standout displaying hallmark Tahbilk characteristics of citrus, honeysuckle, and intense mineral drive.
Reds from the vintage are generally more concentrated and structured, reflecting the lower yields and warmer conditions experienced during ripening.
