Tahbilk 1998 'Reserve' Cabernet Sauvignon

It is difficult to talk about the 'Special Bin'/Reserve'/ 'Eric Stevens Purbrick' reds without talking about the man and the history behind them.
One of the first to place his faith in the future of Australian table wines, Eric was at the forefront of varietal labelling in Australia ; but perhaps his greatest legacy was to create the 'Special Bin' range of reds, beginning with a Shiraz in 1948. Selected from the most outstanding casks produced on the Estate from a particular vintage, these wines became known as 'Reserve' in 1985 ... then from the 2002 vintage onwards they fittingly carry his name and signature: 'Eric Stevens Purbrick'."
You can taste a character of place and feel the voices of the past. These impressive and beautifully crafted wines are wonderful expressions of Australian terroir.”
Andrew Calliard MW ~ Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine
Brick red in colour, as you would expect a twenty eight year-old Estate red to be ... bottle-aged toffee, barnyard and earthy forest floor, dried herb and mushroom characters are apparent, but there are still fruit aromas keeping the bouquet rich and interesting.
The palate is exactly what you anticipate after enjoying the bouquet. The same earthy tertiary flavours dominate, alongside complex layers of chocolate, spice and raisiny, dried plum with the richness of fruit flavours lessening as this classic release realises its full potential.
Tahbilk 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon
14.0% Alcohol | Enjoy Now to 2035/2040
Faced with a challenging growing season, that included a 1 in 100-year flood event, the 2023 vintage delivered wines of great depth of flavour and character … releases we are justifiably proud to share ... standing tall among them is our Cabernet Sauvignon.
A very much true to Estate offering with fruit driving its appeal. Crushed dark and blue berries, earth and bay leaf inputs, mint and baking spices; all contribute to a stylish wine of persistence and charm.
