    About this winei

    THE '1927 VINES' STORY ...
These limited release wines are produced from the Estate’s 1927 planted Marsanne vines – some of the oldest in the world.
The fruit is harvested early at high natural acid levels. No chemicals are added and the juice then becomes fully oxidised. The clean juice is fermented at 11° to 15°C with the resultant wine ‘water’ white, flavourless and with high acid. The wine is bottled and then the magic happens.
“It evolves into a wonderful, textural, mineral wine ... it’s a classic ugly duckling to beautiful swan story. The beauty of making the wine this way is that it develops in the bottle very slowly and has long term cellaring potential.” Alister Purbrick |Winemaker & 4th Generation
Beginning with the first dedicated ‘1927 Vines’ Marsanne release from the 1998 vintage recognition of the impressive character and complexity of these wines continues to grow from both wine writers and critics through to Wine Show judges with the Trophy and Medal tally increasing year on year.

    Reviewsi
Backed up its gold medal at the Sydney Wine Show ?14 with a trophy and gold medal this year, Adelaide also awarding gold. Pale green-straw, it is as fresh as a daisy, the long sibilant palate with a perfect mix of honeysuckle and perfectly balanced acidity. It's anyone's guess how long the wine will continue to give such please; the drink to date is a conservative stab in the dark. James Halliday
