This tasting is more than just a delicious journey — it's a tribute to one of Tahbilk’s most influential figures, Eric Stevens Purbrick. Grandfather of Tahbilk’s current proprietor, Alister Purbrick, Eric took over the management of Tahbilk in 1931 at just 26 years old. Over the following decades, he shaped Tahbilk’s reputation for quality and innovation, steering the winery through the Great Depression, World War II, and beyond.

Eric was a true visionary: one of the first to recognise the potential of single varietal wines in Australia, he introduced varietal labelling and pioneered the practice of cellaring and releasing aged wines — a rare and forward-thinking move at the time. His passion for crafting wines of great character and longevity continues to define Tahbilk’s winemaking philosophy today. Our flagship Cabernet proudly bears his name, in honour of the legacy he built.

Why not make a weekend of it?
Extend your visit with a trip to the Nagambie Farmers Market on Sunday, 25th May, from 10am to 2pm. Wander through the bustling stalls, meet local producers, and enjoy the relaxed country atmosphere — the perfect complement to a weekend of fine wine and good company.
