Coueslant 2015 Marsanne

2015 'Coueslant' Marsanne

12.5% Alcohol | Cork Closure | Enjoy Now to 2023/2025

Produced following the traditional méthode champenoise method, our ‘Coueslant’ Marsanne releases are fermented twice, firstly in tank before being bottled with the addition of the expédition liqueur (sweet liquid) and yeast and allowed to ferment a second time - it is the secondary fermentation in bottle that makes the delicious bubbles.
The wine is then cellared in contact with the fermentation yeast for 24 months for added complexity before disgorging, topped with liqueur, sealed and labelled.
Drawing solidly from its Marsanne soul, this finished sparkling is a wonderful aperitif style with a bouquet of lemon, lime and pear and a background complexity of bready brioche. Superb on its own or with triple cream brie and smoked salmon.

Francois Coueslant was winemaker and manager at Tahbilk from 1877 to 1886, described in the 'Australasian' at the time as “a practical vigneron from France, but a gentleman of progressive ideas, ever ready to adopt new and improved methods of working.’ It was his adoption of ‘progressive’ ideas that led to what has been described as Tahbilk’s early “Golden Age”.

He is credited with adding ‘Chateau’ to Tahbilk – a moniker that held until the year 2000, was responsible for the construction of our iconic Tower and led the fight against the vine louse phylloxera when it appeared on the Estate in 1870 - accountable at the time for decimating, amongst others, the vineyards of France and colonial Victoria.

It seemed entirely appropriate then that we recognise what has been an enduring influence at Tahbilk with his naming of of our premium sparkling releases.
