Penetrating aromas of lemon juice, olive oil and honeysuckle define the nose of this release, that then lead to a fresh and breathtakingly clean palate of lime and citrus notes with hints of ginger spice all wrapped in a crunchy, mineral-like acidity.
A wine for the ages that is wonderfully expressive now but will be so much better with an extended period of cellaring.

JAMES HALLIDAY'S TOP 100 WINES

"Gleaming straw-green; superb balance and length are the usual hallmarks, the trademark honeysuckle and a touch of honey are smartly followed by precisely balanced acidity. This is one of the best vintages of this unique wine, made from the only block of 90yo marsanne vines in Australia."

There is no doubting the significance of Marsanne to the Tahbilk story.
We have the largest single holding of the varietal in the world; it has been planted on the Estate since our earliest days with ‘White Hermitage’ cuttings sourced from St Hubert’s Vineyard in the Yarra Valley in the 1860s that were in fact Marsanne, and we still have surviving plantings from 1927 that are amongst the oldest in the world ... and is from these plantings that we craft our icon '1927 Vines' Marsanne releases.

The fruit for these limited-release wines is harvested early at high natural acid levels, fermented with no addition of chemicals, with the resultant wine ‘water’ white, with high acid and, in essence, flavourless.
The wine is then bottled and the magic happens as it develops slowly over time to reveal the beauty that lies hidden inside.
